4/11/07 |
Tonight's speakers were Maui County councilmembers Gladys Baisa and JoAnne Johnson. Gladys is very impressed with what we are doing and what we have accomplished in so little time. She encouraged us to continue to input in GPAC, especially during the island and community plan phases. She stressed using the media to keep developers as well as public officials, accountable. The media outlet is also a way to try to get more meetings on the West Side. She believes strongly in individual empowerment and grassroots efforts; stating, this is a new day and a new council. She urged those in attendance to back a candidate with similar goals and to get out there and vote. JoAnne Johnson introduced to those in attendance, resolution 07-128, which urges the county to acquire Lipoa point and surrounding undeveloped lands. This resolution is to be presented 4-20-07 at county chambers with opportunity for public testimony-sign up at 9AM 8th floor county building. This is a start please come to support it, also JoAnne said she will resurrect a moratorium bill if we support it. One important point is that MLP has not shown title or deed for the property in question. |
