4/17/07

Our speakers tonight were Maui Democratic Club leader Lance Holter and Brittany McKee a grassroots activist of the year. Lance emphasized the importance of registering to vote, so your voice will mean something. Now we can choose who to elect to the council.

Brittany works with the Sierra Club (California) and she has taken a battle from one state highway through a national park to all state highways in California by changing things at a legislative level. She emphasized getting media attention for big turnouts of supporters. She suggested we take it a step further, than Lance, by holding elected officials accountable for the decisions they make by showing up and giving testimony at every opportunity.

A suggestion from the crowd for a media opportunity was the beach clean up at Lipoa point scheduled for 8:30am middle gate Lipoa point we should all show up with Honolua t-shirts and help keep da beaches clean this Saturday, 4-19-07

Also for those unable to come and give public testimony email to county.clerk @ mauicounty.us before noon 4-19-07, Thursday--just tell them who you are and why you support the county putting aside funds to purchase the land for everyone to enjoy or if you want the private golf course instead.
