Save Honolua Coalition to reveal plan
POSTED: August 3, 2008 , Maui News

WAILUKU - The nonprofit Save Honolua Coalition will host a public meeting Wednesday to reveal its plans to preserve Honolua Bay and Lipoa Point.

The Save Honolua Coalition meeting is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center. The coalition has worked for months with the Honolua Advisory Council on its "Plan for Honolua."

The coalition formed last year in response to Maui Land & Pineapple Co.'s announcement of plans to build 40 luxury homes and a golf course on 310 acres above the bay. Public protests over the project led to the company withdrawing its plans before the General Plan Advisory Committee.

The coalition and council said their current plan is the result of numerous discussions with ML&P, Maui County and community groups.

The coalition's presentation, called "One Plan One Pulse," is intended to garner broader community input, according to a news release by the Save Honolua Coalition. ML&P and county officials are also expected to attend the event, and the landowners will share their proposal as well, the coalition said.

"Our goal is for all stakeholders to be able to unite and move forward with a plan of action to malama (preserve) Honolua," wrote Tamara Paltin of the Save Honolua Coalition.
