Honolua Ridge lots will be in active cultivation

I am responding to the letter “Ag lot restrictions seem like gentleman farming” (Letters, Sept. 22). As explained in the letter, homesites at Honolua Ridge, a project of Kapalua Land Co. Ltd., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Maui Land & Pineapple Co. Inc., have recently gone on sale. This project was thoroughly reviewed and subsequently approved by the county. Honolua Ridge lots are not restricted to planting of Norfolk pine trees in designated locations.
Prior to any sales transaction, prospective owners are informed that Honolua Ridge lots are in an agricultural district, and that each lot must be in active cultivation.
ML&P has formed a new entity, Kapalua Farms, to work with interested Honolua Ridge lot owners in conducting their agricultural activity. Those who do not choose to retain ML&P’s services will have to meet the agricultural requirements on their own.
We look forward to helping Honolua Ridge residents meet their agricultural ambitions with this innovative and mutually beneficial solution.
